Business Plan Pro installation: best practices Follow

Installing your Palo Alto Software program shouldn't require any special steps as long as you have the administrative rights to install software on your computer. However, we do have a list of "best practices" which can be followed to ensure that the software installs normally on your computer. 

Tips:

  • We rely upon Windows to provide a stable and secure environment for installation and operation of our software. As such, we recommend downloading and installing the latest updates for Windows from Microsoft's Windows Update Web site.
  • Always ensure that your computer is virus and spyware free before installing any important software on your computer.

Note: If you have already installed the program and wish to "reinstall" the software, you should use the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Windows Control Panel to remove the software prior to following these steps.

Prepare the Windows Operating System:
  1. Update the anti-virus software then scan for and remove any viruses or ad-ware from the computer.
  2. Clear out the Windows Temp files directory 
  3. Use the System File Checker to check for any missing or damaged Windows System files
  4. Use ScanDisk to check the hard drive for any errors and repair them
  5. Use Defrag to de-fragment the hard drive to ensure optimal performance
Update the OS and Installer components:
  1. Download and install the latest critical Updates for Windows
  2. Download and install the latest Windows Installer Updates
  3. Download or copy the installer for your Palo Alto Software to the hard drive of the computer. Save the installer directly to the C: drive of the computer to ensure that Windows doesn't have troubles accessing the file.
Restart the computer into the Diagnostic Mode of Windows (to try to ensure that other programs do not interfere with the installation)
  1. Click Start, choose Run they type msconfig and click OK
  2. Choose Diagnostic Startup
  3. Click the Services Tab, locate Windows Installer Service and check it's box (show steps)
    1. Click the Services header
    2. Scroll down the list and check the box for Windows Installer
  4. Click OK to apply the changes and restart the computer
  5. Log in as the local Administrator account (username = Administrator) to try to ensure that sufficient administrative rights are given during the installation.
  6. Run the installer file from the C: drive of the computer.
Once the installation completes, test launch the program and then restart Windows into the "Normal" mode of Windows.
  1. Click Start, choose Run they type msconfig and click OK
  2. Choose Normal Startup
  3. Click OK to apply the changes and restart the computer

Again, these steps would only be used in extreme situations but should give the best change at a successful installation and resolution to any installation problems.
